Ten notable fact-checks
Summaries of the most consequential dossiers from our Vietnamese fact-check archive (30 dossiers, four-level verdict scale, minimum two independent sources each). Links lead to full Vietnamese dossiers with complete methodology.
The one rule that defeats most scams: Minh Tue does not accept money — face to face, by bank transfer, or in any other form — and has authorized no one to accept it for him. Any appeal for funds in his name is fraudulent.
Donation appeals "to support Master Minh Tue" (bank transfers, QR codes, "support funds")
He has consistently refused money for nearly a decade and authorized no one to collect on his behalf. A criminal case has been prosecuted over ~250 million VND collected under this pretext. Every money appeal in his name is a scam, without exception.
Videos of "Minh Tue appealing for donations to camera"
AI deepfakes: lip-sync mismatches, synthetic voice, and behavior contradicting his entire verified record — he has never addressed the camera to ask for anything.
"Official channels of Minh Tue / of the walking group"
In a signed November 2024 note he confirmed owning no media channel; the group has no spokesperson. Every "official" label is self-appointed — including this website, which is an independent archive, not his voice.
Viral "teachings of Master Minh Tue" quote cards
Sampled against verified recordings, the ornate aphorisms circulating online do not exist in any authenticated footage. His actual speech is plain, self-deprecating, and he explicitly declines the teacher role.
"He has secretly returned to Vietnam" / "He is banned from returning"
A contradictory pair pushed by the same channels. Multi-source records place the group on its journey abroad; no legal document restricting his return exists — he left legally on a passport issued to him months earlier.
"The sangha has completely disbanded"
Some members have genuinely left at various points — normal in any practice community. But the group demonstrably continues its journey. Exact membership counts cannot be independently verified; treat all precise figures as guesses.
Photos of him "beside a foreign dignitary" / "using a smartphone"
Composites and out-of-context frames. Shadow analysis and reverse-image search expose the edits; a decade of verified records shows he owns no phone and attends no ceremonies.
"He has announced attaining arahantship"
He has never claimed any attainment — verified footage shows the opposite ("I am still learning"). In monastic discipline, falsely claiming attainments is among the gravest offenses; attributing such claims to him is no compliment.
Rumors of hospitalization / imminent collapse, with "doctors' warnings"
Recurring health rumors use old photos re-captioned, and no named physician has ever examined him. His actual condition is private and unknown; observable data (sustained daily walking for years) contradicts the collapse narratives. We update if verified facts emerge.
The rice-cooker alms bowl is real and predates his fame
Photographs from 2020–2023, taken by passers-by before he was famous, show the same vessel. His explanation is consistent: his bowl was taken, he found a discarded rice-cooker pot and used it — fully in the spirit of the rag-robe tradition.
